Special Olympics vs. Soulrender Zilas

Mister Soulrender Zilas, the King of RNG, the boss that took us way to much time to kill. The memories… If I remember correctly, we spent around 12 hours on this guy. When Hammerknell Fortress first opened, this Raid boss was bugged. After you would engage him and wipe once, he would continue to do his Death Beam over and over and over every minute, regardless of where the raid was. I recall trying Sicaron and getting the emote from Zilas every minute.

So given that it was bugged, Trion decided to fix it with a patch. But the US got the patch Wednesday and we got it Thursday ! We just didn’t want to give up the world first kill so easily so we decided to start raiding at 5 am, when the servers would come online. And so we did, Raffter called everybody at 5 in the morning and we got together a sleepy raid and went to pay Mister Zilas an early visit. We weren’t very successful, but at least we got an idea about the tactics. The early morning adventure ended around 12 am, resumed at 5 pm, and went on for the most part of the night until some of us almost felt asleep at the computer. But the next day we came for a second visit, and with renewed forces we killed him in our first attempt of the day. This video is actually from our first kill, now world first but still EU first.

Special Olympics vs. Matron Zamira

The second raid boss we defeated in Hammerknell Fortress was Matron Zamira. This isn’t a video of our World First Kill either, but one I recorded at a later date. Our first kill was amazing and funny I wish we had it. But this video is special in it’s own way because it immortalizes the voice of Celay, our French rogue. We miss you Celay !

But back to the boss now, we never tested Zamira on the Rift Test Shards so we had no clue about the tactics, but we soon noticed that the more stacks it gained the harder it hit on the tanks so it  became obvious that we needed to find a way to remove them. So we started to look around the room for something to use and we discovered the elevators. We figured out  what to do with the Tomes but we never figured out the Skulls. Actually we learned about the Skull mechanics in December 2011.

We ended up using all the Tomes and still being left with about 30% health on the boss, so we just decided to brute force the encounter by using a Cleric with a 51 Purifier specc and try to prevent the damage as much as possible. After reaching the point where our tanks got killed in one hit, we used a combat ress rotation and tank cooldowns to survive through the last 15% of the fight. Was quite a funny night, getting world first kills on both Murdantix and Zamira.

Special Olympics vs. Murdantix

Special Olympics was the first Rift guild in the world to defeat Murdantix, the first boss in Hammerknell Fortress. This is not the video from the first kill, although I wish we would have that one recorded. We got to excited when Phase 5 of the Water and Death World Event started and Hammerknell Fortress opened we just forgot all about it.

It’s been quite a while now since the first kill and the boss has been changed several times. He can be easily tanked with 1 tank now and the fight doesn’t require more then 2 or 3 healers. I think it could be easily done now with only a Bard and a Chloro but it’s all about the ability to combat ress the poor melee caught in the aoe.
